Fresh Ink: Local Composers Market

Featuring the Allegrésse Trio, including Annie Gnojek on flute, Margaret Marco on oboe, and Ellen Sommer on piano, the Dahlia Trio, and a collection of renowned local vocalists, this performance brings the work of Lawrence and Kansas City area composers to life.


Performance in Tokyo, Japan

Allégresse is excited to announce our upcoming performance in Tokyo, Japan at the International Double Reed Society Conference at the National Olympic Memorial Youth Center on August 15 at 2 PM. We’ll perform the world premiere of Weapons of Miss Destruction by Anne Marie Guzzo, a three-movement work for flute, oboe, bassoon and piano. Also on the program, we’ll perform the Asian premiers of Cuando me acuerdo de ti by Vinicio Meza for flute, oboe, bassoon and piano and Cathedral Grove for solo oboe by KU composition professor Forrest Pierce.

Isabel Jeremias, bassoon professor at the Universidad de Costa Rica will perform with us. She’ll also travel to Lawrence to record the works by Guzzo and Meza before we all leave for the conference.


Residency in Costa Rica

Allégresse was in residency at the University of Costa Rica from March 15-19. The trio members taught intensive master classes for university students each day and ended the week with a recital at the Sala Maria Clara Cullell at the Escuela de Artes Musicales, Universidad de Costa Rica.

Joined by KU alumnus Isabel Jeremias who is the professor of bassoon at the UCR, “Allégresse Plus One” performed world premieres of three new works. Allégresse commissioned the work Live Wire by Anne Guzzo and Cuando me acuerdo de ti by Vinicio Meza for flute, oboe, bassoon and piano to commemorate the nearly 60-year partnership between the University of Kansas and the Universidad de Costa Rica. Cathedral Grove for solo oboe by KU composition professor Forrest Pierce received its world premiere. Other works on the program were by Horst Löhse, Elaine Fine and Miguel del Aguila.


Fall Tour 2014

We’ve been hard at work, rehearsing for our upcoming Fall 2014 tour this October! We’re excited to share new music with audiences in Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming and to work with many talented students along the way. We will be performing exciting works by Anne Guzzo, Gabriela Lena Frank, Ingrid Stolzel, Adrienne Albert, Margaret Griebling-Haigh, Alex Shapiro and Andre Previn. Sunday in the Park with Allégresse

This winter was cold and dreary and we’re ready to put it behind us. Join us in celebrating the arrival of spring this Sunday, March 30th at the Lawrence Arts Center. There will be a sandwich picnic beginning at 2 p.m. followed by the performance at 3 p.m.

As part of the Nine Forty Classical series, we will be performing a variety of works including the world premiere of Seasons of the Porsch Garden by LAC’s Artistic Director, Ric Averill.

Students are free, so bring your friends and family and help us get ready for spring!

Fall 2013 Performances

Allegresse has been busy preparing for our next season! On September 8, we’ll be performing at Swarthout Recital Hall at the KU School of Music at 7:30 PM. September 9 we’ll present a recital as part of the Ruel Joyce Concert Series at Johnson County Community College. Then we hit the road and head to northern Iowa for master classes and a performance at Luther College in Decorah, IA on September 18. We are also very excited to have just signed on to play at this year’s Festival of New American Music in Sacramento, CA. Hope you can make it to one or more performances!


Upcoming events

Happy New Year! We are starting off 2013 with a series of performances throughout the Lawrence area starting with an educational concert for Douglas County preschools, continuing with a live performance on Kansas Public Radio on Valentine’s day, and concluding with a performance at the Lawrence Arts Center in the evening on February 16th. We hope to see you at the concert and for those who can’t make it, you can tune in to Kansas Public Radio on their website, www.kansaspublicradio.org.



Allégresse on KPR
